After sintering, the component can be re-compressed to reduce porosity and then re-sintered.
This enables the density to be increased in excess of 90% (p = 7.2 - 7.5 g/cm³ for steels) with a related increase in other properties. This can be required for structural and dynamically stressed parts, and magnetic cores.
