Pressing

Powder Pressing

The various powders are compressed into the tools, which are manufactured from steel or other suitable hard metal, with a pressure related to the final density required for the part.

The compressed material maintains its shape due to cold welding of the powder grains.

This is sufficient to enable extraction of the part from the tool and subsequent handling operations prior to sintering.
The compression stage is extremely critical as the mechanical characteristics of the finished part are determined by the density achieved and its uniform distribution throughout the green part.

Tool design is, therefore, a very key element as the pressure applied cannot be even across all surfaces, so each tool has to balance all aspects of the process for each component
