Resin impregnation is used to fill the distributed porosity of the sintered part with organic material.
Two types of material are generally used:
Oil
The component is saturated with lubricating oil which makes it very suitable for applications where the part is subject to friction.
This "oil reservoir" compensates for the lack of external lubrication. A classic example of this type of part is self-lubricating bushes.
Resin
This process is required to seal the component against absorption of corrosive materials such as those used in plating processes.
